If you view the Columbia River from atop Granite
Mountain near Rossland, you will see the outline
of a woman. She is known as "Lady Columbia" or
alternatively, the "Lady of the River."
In Castlegar visit the Doukhobor Village Museum
that tells the story of a pacifist sect that
fled religious persecution in Russia in the
early 1900s. Explore Rossland's Le Roi Gold
Mine, the only hard rock gold mine open to the
public in Canada. In the winter, ski famed Red
Mountain at Rossland.
To experience exciting whitewater kayaking, try
the lower Slocan River near Castlegar.
In Trail, take one of the free guided tours of
the Cominco Lead/Zinc Smelter that begin at the
Interpretive Centre, a mini science centre
featuring interactive, hands-on exhibits.
